Nowadays people purchase handsets based on trend (what's reigning) and the hype that comes with the gadget, below are the things you should look out for before buying a handset.
•Screen Resolution: this means the display of the phone and it is calculated in ppi(pixel per inch) so the bigger the the screen the lesser the resolution, a phone having 5 inches screen and 720 *1280p will have a ppi density of 297ppi and a phone having 4.5 inches on the same resolution of 720*1280p will have about 326ppi and that means the one of 4.5 inches will be clearer showing more decent photos and images.
•screen Type: we have different types of screens ranging from IPS to super LCD to Amoled screens and of all these Amoled is the best because it produces natural black color and black is what brings out the beauty in other colors and makes more saturated images at times overly saturated though, so if you see that screen that is totally black just know it's Amoled and they are very expensive, second to it is super LCD used by HTC which also produces real black color and thus comes with flagship devices, the othe ones like IPS screens comes with mid range or low-end devices.
•Processing power: every year companies like apple, Qualcomm, mediatek etc release new processors either for flagship devices or mid range devices but something one should take note of Is the fact that a processor having Octa-Core does not mean it's faster than a quad-core processor but always look out for the better processor from benchmarks and a good one is the antuntu and geek benchmarks.
•RAM: this is the temporary memory where your handset stores running apps or apps with tasks the bigger the RAM the more apps you'll be able to run, a phone with 4gb ram runs faster than a phone with 2gb ram because it has more space for apps to run without stressing or overworking the processor but for a phone to run very fast you'll need a good processor and much ram at least 2gb, a 2013 phone having a 32bit processor and 4gb ram cannot run as fast as a 2019 phone having 64bit processor and 2gb ram because the 64bit processor will process things faster with the average ram than the 32bit one.
•Internal memory: in other words inbuilt memory should be at least 16gb with memory card slot.
•Browsing Speed: with the evolution of LTE, 3G speed is becoming obsolete and modern phones arriving with 4G with Qualcomm releasing a 5G processor, Samsung waiting by the corner to launch Samsung galaxy S10 with it, you should know that at least you should have a phone using 4G for faster browsing and downloading /uploading.
•Camera: A decent phone should have at least 8 mega pixels, though megapixels don't account for a good camera but for zooming and printing more detailed images, for a good camera you'll need good saturation, auto focus, photo processor algorithm, sensor size and aperture( the lower the value the better the quality of images) aperture is normally represented by F which is the amount of light entering the camera sensor and focal length .
•Operating System: the newer the operating system the better but for android I'll recommend at least android 5.1 and above because each release comes with added apps which can run only on them.
•Battery: should be at least 3000mah and above so as to carry you throughout the day.
•Etcetera: includes fingerprint, iris scanner, miracast, gyroscope , accelerometer, usb tupe c, bluetoot 4.1, heart rate monitor, fast charge, dust and water resistant etc.
